Ok...  In the middle of pulling the wheels and tires and I ran into toruble.  I was tring to unscrew the speedo cable bracket and the head to the screw broke.  I have an extractor set I borrowed from a buddy here at work.  Now mind you I think I am in good shape since only 1/4 of the head broke off.  No, the screw itself is still intact, only part of the head came off.

Will the extractor be enough...or am I boogerd?

GRRR...Bike was down most of last spring/summer with carbs and now down with no tires!  What next?   Anyhoo...hope to get the new tires on this weekend...we shall see.

I am ready for the CAVE!
I already have the Sitter lined up and  vacation approved and i need it!

I don't remember exactly what that screw looks like, but if part of the head is still there I would try to loosen it carefully with visegrips before drilling it and taking a chance of breaking a easyout in the screw.  If all else fails you can drill out the screw, and retap or helicoil the bolt hole. I'll be home this weekend if I can be of any assistance.  We'll get you down to Robbers Cave one way or another.  Good Luck

Thanks for the offer Jim.

Since then I have been crazy busy with kids activities and work.  I snuck in some time to work on it here and there on the I managed to borrow a friends slide hammer style screwdriver and managed to break it loose.  When I purchased the Valk it had new tires on it and after 14k it was time for a new shoe up front.  So, I bought the Valk from a Harley dealership and when the screw came out the probem was found.  Locktite from top to bottom!  guess they  use a LOT fo that on those giant vibrating machinese.  Oh well, trouble averted, new brakes and tires mounted.  Driveline serviced, oil changed, wheels polished (whew what a workout!), I still have to put a few things back together but I am ready for the cave.

Hope to see you all there!

Ok, now that you have yours ready, wanna come finish getting mine ready? Wink

Got a new alternator put in. (over 100k...preventative, tho probably not necessary)

Replaced the front cover that was broken.  (the evil bitch of a piece that your side covers hook into.  I don't know who the demented bastard is who designed THAT.....)

Rebuild kit put in the petcock.

Checked the K&N Air Filter and removed the pre-filter.

Coolant is low, so I'm going to drain/flush and replace it.

Now, would someone come over and wash/wax it for me?

Bring it on by, I'll wash and wax it in exchange for your servicing my two on all of the previously mentioned maintenance. Heck, you can even use my new lift.  Grin

Deal?

Oh, while its up there go ahead and pluck that bad valve stem and replace that too please.  Wink

Scott, sounds like you are in the same boat as me!

I still got to wash/wax/polish too.  Waiting on a new windshield.  Hope that shows up soon.  Mine has been broke for quite a while.  Got a couple electrical goodies I wanna try out too.

I replaced my petcock last year when I had (got) to rejet.  Cleaned up the carbs, de-smog, new petcock= NO MORE DECEL POPPING and running smooth!

After the Cave I have to finish buttoning up the FJR and get ready for Colorado!  Riding the "sporty" bikes up there with one of my nephews.  He is the only one I never got to spend time with growing up.  I'm learning he is quite the character and look forward to a week on the bikes with him.   We are planning a raft trip through the Royal Gorge one day too!!

See ya at the Cave!!
