Just a quick note to say HI. I've been lurking here for some time now and apparently never registered until today. I live in McAlester, ride a black '00 Standard (just bought it in late July), been riding off and on for most of my 51 years. Member of the VRCC (#24021) & the IBA (#19153). I've done 4 SS 1,000's and 1 BB 1,500 (that one was quite a ride). The wife and I run the mountians in eastern Ok. on a regular basis and slab it when ever we can. I put about 20,000 a year on the bikes (Valk & 750 ACE), however the Valk consumes most of the miles now-a-days LOL.
I just registered for the ride-in at Robbers Cave, I hope ya'll don't mind. We won't be staying the nights (we are only 30 miles from the park) but would like to meet up and ride the hills with some of you if you'll have us. I hope I haven't over stepped my bounds but if I have just get over it! I'll probably be there somewhere anyway! LOL.
We don't have a regular riding group here but we do gather up a few folks a couple times a year and head to Queen Willamina for a Sunday feast. We mostly just load up and go solo to wherever (last time we wound up in Shreveport on a Sat. nite, don't know how that happened we were supposed to go to Dallas to see the daughter, but shit happens).
Anyway here I am in all my splendor, take me in or throw me out, but I will probably still lurk no matter what.
Thanks,
Buster Harris

Buster,

You are MOST welcome around here.  We're not some tight group that shuns outsider at all!  And you are also most welcome at Robbers Cave, in fact I'd be offended if you didn't show up since you are so close by!!  I'm sure we seem like a tight little family, but I suppose thats because several of us have ridden together over the last couple of years.  Heck, I didn't know a single one of these hooligans a couple of years ago.  They are a great group of people, that I can say for sure!

Just right in here and tell us about your many travels.  I (we) love a great ride story!  I don't get that many miles in a year, but I try my best.  Usually around 10-12k per year mostly on longer trips.  This year I'll be going to the Cheaha Rally in April(and the Smokie mountains once its over), Robbers Cave in May, Inzane in Colorado during July, and back to the Smokies in Tennessee in August for Dragons over the Smokies.  And probably quite a few more smaller trips if I can get away with it!

I'm not an IBA member, though I probably should be with some of the long days I've ridden.  I'm gonna tag along with our friends to the north in Kansas, Raymond/Rhonda, as Rhonda does her first SS1000 in April.  I haven't convinced myself to do the paperwork yet, but I suppose I should if I'm gonna do the miles.

Thanks Scott. I hollered at ya a while back when I read about the wrench party in Chandler and you invited me then, but I couldn't get off that Sat.
And I hear ya about the paperwork on the I/B's, it's not really that much to do, but it gets kind of expensive to certify all of them. So I just certified a couple of 1,000's and of course that BB 1,500! That one was a bitch!!! I earned that one I tell ya! I really think a 2,000 would be easier (more time to finish ya know).  I've done all of them so far on the 750 ACE, haven't had time to do one on the Valk yet but like you I have an acquaintance that will probably make me do one with him this spring if the timing is right.
Thanks for the invite. I'll drop in on ya'll in May.
BTW, let us know if you plan another wrench party. I sure could use a little moral support syncing the carbs since I've never done it and don't have the stuff. I'm trying to get my fuel mileage up to the 38-40 range instead of the measly 32.75 I'm getting now. A good tune up is in the near future.

Welcome aboard Buster,  It is always nice to have a new member.  We are a pretty laid back group with no real rules.  I haven't heard a lot of people talking about another wrench/tech party but if there is enough interest I will be glad to host another.  But if you need any help with anything in the mean time we will be glad to help.  I did a SS 1000 a couple of years ago and I am thinking about doing a BBG 1500 on my way home from Inzane.  I look forward to meeting you at Robbers Cave if not earlier.  Jim

Thanks Jim I will probably be calling on some kind of help this spring. I do all my own maintenance and tinkering (because I'm stuck off down here in the middle of nowhere, and I like to tinker), but there are some things I'd just like to see done or have somebody coaching me while I'm doing it.
Now about the I/B's! Are you sure you can get enough rest while at INZANE to 1,500 miles in 24? I can knock those 1,000 milers out with little difficulty anymore but that 1,500 really took a toll on me the last two hours! LOL. I was like a contorsionist, all over the bike trying to get the blood back in my ASS!!!!! LOL. Ofcourse I think doing it on the ACE had something to do with it too. That little bike is as comfy as a recliner but after 33 hours straight even a recliner starts to suck!! LOL. I ought to post my ride report from that one, it might give somebody the fever, or some insight.
BTW. We ran through your little burg not long ago on a trip to S'Water to see the boy. Just got tired of running the same old roads and got off the beaten path for awhile. Enjoyable ride for us.

Buster, we like splendor, we have a few with alot of splendor. You will like the group, its a motely crew of a bunch of regular Joes that love to ride. I've learned ALOT from these guys, and the VRCC boards also. Good bunch of people. You spent 33hrs straight on a 750 Ace for an IBA event, my hats off to you already....
Welcome to the group and looking forward to meeting you.

Jim - Is that Wrench /Tech Party in March or April ?

We just barely missed ya last Sunday. A buddy and I made a wild run up to Talequah, back to Wagoner, down to Checotah, Over to Henryetta, and then down the old 75 to Calvin and back home. About a 300 mile run just riding and scouting out the Cookson Hills just for future rides. Hiway 82 ain't a bad little 40 mile ride but there's not much before or after it, but it might be a fun way to get to Fayetteville next time we go.
And I hear ya about the starter button. I cleaned mine up a couple of months ago, it does OK now but still has a little glitch every now and then. I guess I'll try it again soon.

Glad to see a new contributor to the SSVR board. Welcome.

Lately, the board has been pretty quiet. Thanks to you, we have a new thread for everyone to read. I guess we just needed somebody new to jump start the conversation.

Yep I already figured out ya'll are a motley crew. I looked at some of the pics on the board!!! LOL. Looking forward to meeting some of you guys, probably at Robbers Cave. But if you guys get a wrench party together and I can get lose from work on a Sat. (I'm off Sun.-Mon. right now but that will change soon) I'll try to see some of you there.
Thanks for the welcome.
