Well I know what I'm doing for the next couple of months! CUTTING TREES!!! I've got about 150 trees on the 3 acres around the house and every one of them is broken. Some on the ground some with broken tops. It's a HELL-OF-A-MESS. Maybe worse than the 2000 storm. I won't know until round three of this storm passes Sunday night. I've been up since 3:00 AM, trees crashing on the house all night. The only bright spot here is I still have power, 17,000 people here in McAlester are in the dark as we speak. The down side is this is really going to get into my riding time this spring. I hope everyone else has faired better than us. Crying is over! Time to get the chain saw out!

Man, that sucks Buster! No damage at all in my neck of the woods, and I'm here in OKC this weekend and so far there isn't any ice damage here either.
We got it bad in 2000, so I'm glad it didn't get us this time. (so far!)

I've got about 150 trees on the 3 acres I only thought I had a lot of trees. Good luck with your cleanup project and if you want to have a yard party, just holler and and I'm sure we can get you some help. I have been lucky so far no real accumulation of ice on the trees here.

I don't have any trees down yet, but I must admit the sleet is coming down like it's a March thunderstorm, complete with the thunder and lightning. I can only think of a few times in my life that I have seen lightning and sleet at the same time. Freaky. The dog doesn't like it, the wolf doesn't seem to care.
You all take care and drive carefully if you have to get out in it.

I have see it thunder and lightning in a snow storm but never in a slet storm. We had the go-cart out in the ice pulling a sled and it was sleating so hard tha twe had to come inside. I do have two chain saws and no trees at my house so if someone needs some help let me know.

Hi All, I've been out of pocket for about a year or so and just thought I'd check in and see what everyone is up to. Muskogee was hit pretty hard with all the ice too. Every street in town looks the same with trees/limbs on the houses, cars, electrical lines and in the streets. Here's a picture of my trees and these look good compared to many others in town. Snow is predicted this weekend too. I hope everyone is safe and warm.

Tim, No Goldwing gang. Just too many fires to put out and not any spare time for anything. I haven’t forgotten you “Valkers” and plan to meet up with everyone soon.

WHAAA-WHOOOO! We finally got power last night about 8:30. What a shitty week we had. I had to seal off 2/3 of the house with vis-queen (sp) and we were living in four rooms until we scored a kerosene heater on Tuesday. Things got much better then. We've got a cold rain this morning that is melting the ice thank goodness. Now it's off to the carport to retrieve all the icechests and restock the icebox. Damage report: Over 100 trees (25 in the yard and 75 around the property) broken and down. Clothes line, swingset, and patio furniture smashed flat. Hot Tub is totalled. Carport roof is impailed by three large limbs Roof to the den is beat to hell and leaking like a sive. Can't get the central heat to work (maybe a surge damaged the system) About two squares of roof damaged from limbs sliding off and taking shingles with it. Cable TV is out so the local radio station is our entertainment. There is a little more but this is getting depressing! It looks like my riding time this spring is jepardised! I think I have about three months of cleanup and repair ahead of me.

THAT IS alot of damage. Glad you are ok too. I talked to Bandit again tonight, he is with a huge Baptist volunteer group that is working daily there in the McAlester area. They are running chainsaws and clearing streets etc. They are staying at the Expo Center there in town. He grew up northeast of Stringtown, his Dad still lives there. He said it is a devistating mess in the east part of the state.

EVERYONE down here REALLY appreciates the efforts of BANDIT and all the organizations like his. There is not a single residence that escaped the damage. BANDIT and his crew are a Godsend for those elderly people who don't have the youth or the resources to clean the debri from sidewalks and doorways. Power to most of the town has been retored as of today (Sat-Sun) and life is returning. And it's a good thing because every store that could open their doors for the last week is OUT of emergengy supplies of every kind. Most all the smaller stores operated all week by flashlights and lanterns and hand wrote tickets at the registers. The only bright spot was we never lost water or gas service here in town, although the rural areas did. There were over 2,000 PSO (or similar) highline workers in town working 16-24 hours a day for the whole week just to get the power up and running. They all worked together in a very systematic, professional and efficient mannor. Given the devistation, I don't know how they got it done so quickly. Working 50 feet in the air with 20* temps and single digit windchills, is something only a few heros can or are willing to do. A GREAT BIG "HATS OFF" for those who braved our storm. After experiencing the 2000 ice storm, my estimation is that the damage is at least 50% worse this time. The cleanup begins today and will be mostly complete in a few weeks. But there will be affects for for a long time to come. Limbs hanging 40 feet in the air will continue to fall for about 2 years. The last of the big broken limbs from the 2000 ice storm finally fell to the ground in the spring of 2006, so it ain't over for a long time yet. Me. my good dog (Coco the Lab), and three chainsaws will be cutting firewood, stacking and burning brush and repairing structural damage for a few weeks but we survived this in pretty good shape compared to some. I have the equipment to do it myself but it is going to take a BUTT-LOAD of time that I would have much rather spent doing fun stuff instead! LOL.
